Synthetic fiber filling is popular for its high insulation, durability, and quick drying properties.
Modern synthetic materials are nearly as effective as down in retaining heat. The key advantage of synthetic bags is their ability to insulate even when damp. However, a damp bag is never as comfortable as a dry one, so be sure to air your synthetic bag after use, just as you would with a down bag.
To ensure optimal performance in our fiber sleeping bags, we use various fibers and blends tailored to the bag's intended use. Our fiber-filled bags are constructed with multiple layers. Summer bags feature a single fiber layer, while 3-season and winter bags have several layers with "dead air" spaces to prevent cold spots and block cold air from entering. The thickness of each layer varies by model to match the bag's temperature rating. Each layer is composed of many thin layers, increasing the surface area for trapping air and enhancing insulation. We avoid using binder fibers or glue to hold the layers together, opting instead for a non-woven fabric that adds insulation. Additionally, we blend different fibers to optimize insulation, strength, compressibility, and softness.
At Helsport, we use a blend of different polyester hollow fiber in our synthetic sleeping bags. Hollow fiber, with its fine, hollow strands of polyester, traps air and provides excellent insulation without adding much weight, making the sleeping bag both warmer and lighter.
Synthetic fiber filling is popular for its high insulation, durability, and quick drying properties. It requires minimal maintenance and is widely used in sleeping bags today. Fiber is perfect when you are looking for a sleeping bag to keep you warm and comfortable on your adventures.
