Twin-Bag, specially designed for winter expedtions
A dual sleeping bag system designed for polar expeditions and overnight trips during the harshest winter conditions in Norway (or Sweden and/or Finland, for that matter). Polar Spitsbergen is the result of collaboration with our ambassadors and experience gained in polar regions. This dual sleep system combines the warmth and comfort of down with the insulating and hard-wearing properties of synthetic filling. The inner bag is filled with 900+ down. It features arm openings, and the hood has attachment points that allow the inner bag to be connected to the outer bag. The outer bag is filled with synthetic insulation and has a centrally positioned zipper that is easy to locate and operate, and will not freeze shut. The outer bag’s fabric has a 1,000 mm hydrostatic head rating. It is also easy to clean while retaining its ability to release moisture and prevent moisture from penetrating the fabric.
The inner bag is filled with 900+ FP goose down. The hood fits snugly around the head without being excessively large. The insulated draft collar is shaped to sit naturally and comfortably over the shoulders, with a simple internal adjustment system. All zippers on the bag are made as short as possible without compromising ease of use. A large, down-insulated draft tube runs along the entire zipper to prevent heat loss. The main zipper on the left side has three sliders that can be configured to create an opening for the left arm. This dual-zipper arrangement allows you to sit upright and stay comfortably warm while eating, reading, cooking, etc. Inside the bag, you will find a spacious chest pocket for storing essential items that you need to keep within easy reach. Both the hood and the draft collar are adjustable, allowing the inner bag to be fully closed in extremely cold conditions or opened completely when temperatures permit. The dual zippers also make it easy to regulate the temperature.
The outer bag has a distinctly different design. It features a short, centrally positioned zipper and is filled with synthetic insulation. The central zipper means that the zippers on the inner and outer bags are offset from one another. This minimizes heat loss and helps prevent you from grabbing the wrong zipper if you need to get out of the bag during the night. We use synthetic insulation in the outer bag because of a critical, but perhaps less widely known, challenge associated with sleeping in cold climates. During the night, we sweat, and the moisture released can freeze on the inside of the sleeping bag in extremely cold conditions. Over time, this moisture can accumulate as ice inside the bag, potentially becoming a major problem on longer expeditions. With the Polar Spitsbergen sleeping bag, there is still a risk of ice forming on the inside of the bag. However, because the outer bag uses synthetic insulation, the ice will not compromise its insulating performance to the same extent as it would with down. Synthetic insulation also dries more quickly. The outer bag is designed to fit over the inner bag without compressing the down insulation inside it. The hood is shaped so that it can easily be pulled over the hood of the inner bag or laid flat and filled with clothing to serve as a pillow. The outer bag is made from a more durable fabric with a 1,000 mm hydrostatic head rating. Like the inner bag, it also features a large, spacious internal chest pocket for storing essential items that need to be readily accessible.
